Save yourself the grief, just buy a house now and give it to her. Job done.

Re: Engagement rings
Propose with something else then get both of you upto Hatton Garden. Make a day of it. Loads of nice bars and restaurants round Farringdon way. You'll need a bar after walking around 50 jewellers before going back to the first one for the ring. One month salary was my rule of thumb.

Didnt see the point of giving the bird a ring she'd never seen before and has to wear it without particularly liking it

Re: Engagement rings
Depending on your budget, Thanks Ted is correct.

If you get your ring made you'll get a much better diamond at a much better price. A high street jewellers will sell the diamond based on it's certificate, but that isn't the most important thing necessarily.

If you get the ring made you'll get to choose the best diamond for that design and can end up with a much better diamond for your money.

As for budget, it's entirely up to you. Don't be pressured into spending more than you can.

As for design, talk to her friends, look on her Pinterest page and after that, if you still don't know give her the choice of you choosing what you think or her choosing.

Of course if you're getting it made, she can have a say in the design without actually seeing the ring. You can still choose the diamond without her.... You could even talk to jeweller first about your budget.

Re: Engagement rings
Get yourself up Hatton Garden, you’ll get a better quality diamond for your money. Also do your research on the 4 C’s and invest in what is most important to you and the future Mrs Roby.
Good luck

Re: Engagement rings
This is interesting, well it interested me anyway.

Apparently, according to the above;

'The ring, then-in this respect-was quite simply a symbol of ownership or slavery.'

On that basis I know a good few blokes who ought to be wondering around with engagement rings.

Re: Engagement rings
Spent about 200 quid in 1999 on a simple white gold and diamond job. Had to have stone reset a couple of years ago and it turns out it is very good quality and worth around 300 pounds. No need to overspend.

Re: Engagement rings
Spent about three hundred quid on an engagement ring for the missus eleven years ago.We both ageed it was stupid to spend two/three grand on a ring. She’s not that sort of person and she would of been terrified of losing it anyway, plus we were paying for the whole wedding ourselves so the money could be spent on the big day itself.

Hi Ruby
Gay weddings are very expensive as they're still relatively new, wait a while the price will come down.
